Steve Cook. Bradley Martyn. Nick Trigili. Joe Pitt. Mike Counihan. Shaun Wycked. Danny Jones. Heidi Somers. Jay Cutler. Ronnie Colman. Calum Von Moger. Anita Herbert. Dana Linn Bailey. Linda Durbesson. Jo Lindner.

Some of you may know these names and some of you will not have the faintest clue, however, the message is the same.

Lies, lies and more lies

Social media platforms, muscle and fitness magazines, “bro-science” and endless marketing campaigns have seriously tainted the fitness industry.

Those people listed above are all influencers on multiple lines of social media that continue to spread misconceptions and downright lies about fitness in its purest sense.

Being well inside and out.

How can you possibly think that these mass-marketed “fitness programs” that you pay hundreds of dollars for monthly will get you a body like an 8 time Mr. Olympian?

Better yet, how have we allowed society to paint us this picture that if you just lift heavier weights, you can have the body you always wanted?

Do you ever hear people talk about the benefits of WHAT you put in your body?

Do you ever hear people talk about nutrition as a highly regarded framework for exquisite physique building?

The answer is a big, fat, NOPE.

Why is that?

Quite simply- it’s not sexy.

Sex sells

Talking about micro and phytonutrients just doesn’t appeal to the masses like a shirtless pic of a dude with six-pack abs or a woman with toned arms and an extravagant rear end.

But, how did those individuals get to where they are?

Don’t get me wrong, they put in their work at the gym, but they put the hardest work in the kitchen.

Ever hear the adage that “abs are made in the kitchen?”

Well, that is the truth that no one talks about. That no one emphasizes as the REAL road to physical fitness. The path that is the most difficult to obtain because it doesn’t sell and it’s not appealing to the masses.

If you think eating healthy is by following the “typical” bro-science diet of eating mass amounts of chicken and rice. You are sorely mistaken.

That couldn’t be further from the actual truth.

Nutrients make the world go round

Of course, you need specific nutrients circulating in your blood all the time for WHEN you work out. This is because after you create hypertrophy of your muscles, your blood vessels are engorged and they are there to supply the mitochondria and myocytes with those nutrients so they can grow!

It doesn’t matter if you are cycling 5 days a week for 10 miles, swimming 3 days a week for 20 laps, lifting weights 6 days a week for 1.5 hours, or running 2 miles a day. The answer is ALWAYS the same no matter what the equation is.

Diet. Diet. Diet.

I am not saying a fad diet either. I am saying finding nutrient-dense foods to help you achieve your goals and allow your body to function as intended.

Do you think we were supposed to eat mass amounts of carbs and fats to gain muscles?

NO!!

We simply can’t work out hard, go home, and eat whatever we what because we “justified” our poor choices by going to the gym.

We would be like the Michelin Man if we kept with that thought process.

We need to time when we eat. We need to portion out our array of life-sustaining and enriching foods. We need to understand how food works in our bodies. We need to respect the foods we eat. We need to be more open-minded and understand that clever marketing campaigns have literally swindled us for centuries to buying their product or purchase their workout plans.

Prepackaged convenience

Workout plans are good to a certain degree. If you are in a funk and can’t seem to get over the next hurdle, all you have to do is change your routine.

Human bodies are amazing at adapting to certain stressors and we unconsciously seek to make everything we do easier.

As a result- we can go through the motions in the gym. Not push as hard during our cycling. Forgo the extra 1–2 miles on our run because we just don’t feel like it.

For those situations, it would be beneficial to find a workout routine in your desired field to help bust you through your plateau.

Biggest scam

Here’s another SHOCKER. ANY workout plan will work. Do you know why? Because your body is already accustomed to a certain “routine” and by only slightly switching something, you will feel sore and see hypertrophy.

ANOTHER gimmick that trainers thrive on.

The ENTIRE fitness industry is so focused on “what kind of workouts do you do so I can look like you?”

When in reality, we need to be asking “what are you eating?” “Did you time your carbs before or after your workout, or both?” “What is the optimal nutritional focus for my body that will help stimulate mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin)?”

You don’t see these questions being addressed anywhere.

Let’s break the mold together and understand that what we put in our body is amazingly more important than what we do to “stay healthy.”

We cannot expect to put in the hard work in the gym, on the track, in the pool or on the road, and then go eat fast food, processed foods, and non-perishable items. If you think that is the road to success, I have some very bad news to give you.

Success starts in the kitchen. It starts when you make a vested interest in what you are feeding yourself and your family. It allows you to achieve your goals. It becomes a lifestyle of NONCONFORMITY.

Most importantly- it allows you to become educated.

Don’t follow the crowd. Go against the grain and find out the “secret” the fitness industry doesn’t want you to realize.

Ask questions. Be inquisitive.

Be stronger. Be fitter. Be better. Be braver.
